One of Belize's newest reserves encompasses an area of sixty square kilometers. Accesible only by sea, the Bacalar Chico Marine and Wildlife Reserve is located at the northern tip of Ambergris Caye overlooking the Bay of Chetumal and Mexico. The ranger station is located amidst the ruins of Chac Balam, which once was an important Maya trading center. Fifteen hundred years ago, these same Maya cut the narrow channel that separates Ambergris Caye from Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

This is a great excusion for guests seeking a bit of variety.  In addition to seeing the complete shorline of Ambergris Caye (you will fully circle the island during your day of fun in the sun), you will snorkel with the abundant marine life in the Mayan reef of San Juan, explore the ancient Mayan dug out canal of made approximately 1500 years ago, enjoying the flora and fauna along the way. After a short walk to Rocky Point, where reef meets land, you will experience two more spectacular snorkels on the reserve.  Your day includes a fillet fish Barbeque served with grilled potatoes, baked beans, flour tortillas and a fruit drink cocktail.
